Your Gateway to Tech Wonders

SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FOLD 5 Price, Specs, Launch Date.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the larger foldable in Samsung’s line, which also includes the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Fold 5 is a standard Android slab phone that opens up like a book into a 7.6-inch tablet. If you compare with the previous fold phone Z Fold 4 it has lighter chassis that folds completely flat thanks to a re-engineered hinge, upgraded Gorilla Glass, and top-of-the-line specs. If you were waiting for the Z Fold series to fully work out its kinks, the Z Fold 5 is the phone you’ve been waiting for. It’s worth the high price for power users and earns our Editors’ Choice award for folding phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is finely polished, with a beautiful fit and finish in a package that weighs just 8.92 ounces, down from the Fold 4’s 9.28 ounces. That seemingly small 0.36-ounce difference is a big deal. The weight is well distributed and the device feels balanced whether you hold it open or closed. The Z Fold is available in five colors, though two are exclusive to Samsung’s website. The Cream, Icy Blue, and Phantom Black variants are available generally, but the Blue and Gray models are available only online.

The 7.6-inch inner screen sticks with the same 2,176-by-1,812-pixel resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio, and 120Hz refresh rate of the Fold 4, though it can get brighter than before, at 1,750 nits peak brightness compared with 1,000 nits. The crease of the fold is still visible. It is least noticeable when you have two apps up in a 50/50 split screen and is most visible when the screen is completely black. You are unlikely to notice the warped area of the screen when viewing videos, text, and images. Additionally, the creased area feels a little less deep to the touch than the crease on the Fold 4.

Samsung’s Software

this picture defines the software of Samsung galaxy z fold 5

Launched in July 2023, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones come with new features, impressive design, a fresh OS, and more. At the moment, Samsung has started pushing the first software update for Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The update is rolling out for locked models on the Verizon network in the US and the company will soon expand this update in more countries. The first software update for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes with One UI builds mentioned below.

  • Galaxy Z Flip 5 – F731USQU1AWG3
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5 – F946USQU1AWG4

The latest update installs the Android security patch released in July 2023. It brings fixes for plenty of issues and vulnerabilities found in Google’s Android operating system and Samsung’s One UI software. These include 90 issues that were majorly affecting the phone’s security and its users’ privacy.

Moreover, the current firmware update also focuses on enhancing the system’s stability to reduce errors like crashing, lagging, or freezing. Aside from this, you might also notice some performance improvements after installing this update.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a total of five cameras. There is a triple-camera setup on the rear of the device, with a 12MP ultra-wide camera at f/2.2 with a 123-degree field of view, a 10MP telephoto camera at f/2.4 with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP standard camera at f/1.8 with optical image stabilization. By default, the 50MP camera uses pixel binning to output final images at 12MP for better detail. The Pixel Fold also uses pixel binning for its 48MP rear camera. For video capture, the rear cameras of the Z Fold 5 top out at 8K resolution at 30fps. For comparison, the Fold 4 maxes out at 8K resolution videos, but at 24fps.

Selfie Camera

The cover screen features a 10MP selfie cam at f/2.2 with an 85-degree field of view, while the inner screen’s under-display camera has a 4MP sensor at f/1.8 with an 80-degree field of view. The cover screen’s video capture maximum is 4K60, while the under-display camera hits 1080p at 60fps. We would recommend avoiding using the under-display camera unless you have to.

Samsung claims to use a beefier cooling solution on the Fold 5. This should bode well for extended gaming sessions and when the phone is under sustained load, as it can dissipate the heat more effectively. The Fold 5 uses faster UFS 4.0 storage and is available in 256GB and 512GB configuration. There is a 1TB model, but it is exclusive to Samsung’s online store in the US.

System chip:Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SM8550-AC (4 nm)
Processor:Octa-core, 1x 3.36GHz Cortex-X3 + 2x 2.8GHz Cortex-A715 + 2x 2.8GHz Cortex-A710 + 3x 2.0GHz Cortex-A510
GPU:Adreno 740
Internal storage:256GB, not expandable
Device type:Smartphone
OS:Android (13)

The Fold 5 is an iterative upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and it is visible from the internal spec bump as well. Besides the switch to the latest processor and faster storage standard, the Fold 5 packs the same hardware as Samsung’s 2022 foldable. The main highlight is the use of Qualcomm’s current top-tier chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ‘for Galaxy.’ Thanks to Samsung’s partnership with Qualcomm, the main Cortex-X3 core on the Snapdragon chip runs is clocked slightly higher at 3.36GHz. The company uses the same Snapdragon chip across its Galaxy S23 line-up.

Price And Launch Date

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is available for pre-order now starting at $1,800 in your choice of Icy Blue, Phantom Black or Cream. The phone will be widely available on Aug. 11.

The base model Galaxy Z Fold 5 offers 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but you can opt for either 512GB ($1,919.99) or 1TB ($2,159.99) if you need more.
